1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how SafeCamp ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the SafeCamp mobile app, website, and related services (the "Service"). By using the Service you agree to this policy.
We designed SafeCamp around privacy: your location and audio are shared only with the circles you choose, and you can stop sharing at any time.
2. Information we collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Account information — your name, email address, phone number, and profile photo.
- Circle information — the circles you create or join and the members within them.
- Location information — the device location you choose to share with your circles (see section 4).
- Content — check-ins, messages, incident reports, and audio you record during a Walk Home session.
- Device and usage information — device type, operating system, app version, and general usage data.
3. How we use information
We use information to operate, provide, and improve the Service, including to:
- Show your location and status to the circles you choose;
- Deliver check-ins, messages, incident reports, and SOS alerts;
- Facilitate Walk Home sessions and live audio;
- Keep the Service safe, secure, and working properly; and
- Provide support and respond to your requests.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your location or audio for advertising.
4. Location data
SafeCamp uses your device's location only when you enable location sharing. You choose who can see you and when. You can pause or stop sharing location at any time, and you can leave a circle or go private in the app settings.
5. Walk Home audio
During a Walk Home session you may record live audio for the trusted person accompanying you. Audio is shared with them for the duration of the session. You control when a session starts and stop.
6. How we share information
We share your information only:
- With the circles and people you explicitly choose;
- With service providers who process data on our behalf under strict contractual obligations;
- When required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the public; and
- As part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case we will notify you.
7. Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain it.
8. Security
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information, including encryption in transit and at rest. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Your choices and rights
Subject to applicable law, you may access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and you may object to or restrict certain processing. You can manage most settings in the app, or contact us using the details below.
10. Children's privacy
SafeCamp is not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction). Where a family circle includes a minor, a parent or guardian is responsible for that member's account and consent.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes we will notify you in the app or by email and update the "Last updated" date above.
