1. Data we collect
| Category | Examples |
|---|---|
| Account | Name, phone number, email (optional), password (stored hashed), profile photo, Safety PIN (stored hashed). |
| Location | Precise (GPS) and approximate location while you use the app, during an SOS, a Companion Walk, a check-in, or when sharing with your Circles. Background location only while a walk/check-in is active. |
| Safety activity | SOS events, Companion Walks, scheduled check-ins, user status, incident reports (type, description, location, time). |
| Emergency media | Audio and video you capture during an active SOS, and photos/notes you attach to incident reports. |
| Social | Circles you create or join and their members. |
| Device & diagnostics | Push-notification token, app version, platform, and crash/error logs. |
2. Why we collect it
- Account — to create and secure your account and sign you in.
- Location — to show you and (only where you allow) your Circles where you are, to power SOS, Companion Walks, and check-ins.
- Emergency media — evidence for you and your Circles/responders when you raise an SOS or report an incident.
- Diagnostics — to keep the app stable and fix crashes.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
3. How we protect it
- In transit: all traffic uses HTTPS/TLS.
- At rest: data is stored in managed infrastructure with encryption and access controls. Emergency media is stored in private object storage (Cloudflare R2) and served via short-lived signed links.
- Passwords & PINs: stored only as salted hashes — never in plain text.
- Location privacy: once an SOS ends, precise coordinates are obfuscated so your exact history isn't retained.
4. How it is shared
- Your Circles — people you add can see your location/activity according to the sharing settings you choose.
- Community responders — during an active SOS, nearby users and SafeCamp staff may see the alert to coordinate help.
- Legal — only where required by law.
5. Service providers
We use a small number of processors strictly to run the Service: Cloudflare R2 (media storage), Twilio (SMS verification), Expo/Firebase (push notifications), and Google Maps (maps and geocoding).
6. Retention
We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time (see below), which removes your account and associated data.
7. Your controls & deletion
- Manage location sharing and privacy from Profile → Privacy Controls.
- Delete your account in-app from Profile → Delete Account. This permanently removes your account, Circles, check-ins, SOS history, and incident data.
- You can also email us to request deletion or a copy of your data.
